Job Description:

The main object and purpose of the LI Operations Manager is to coordinate, administer, supervise and analyze overall production operations of a production facility in compliance with production requirements, corporate strategies, environmental requirements, budget and operations procedures. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring team coaching and improvement and for promoting ALC’s safety and quality objectives.

Key responsibilities:

Plans daily production activities: Operate the plant, including the management of personnel, budget, assets and relationship with ALC’s customers. Assume the role of Facility Manager as defined within IMS (refer to LI-30-01). Prepare, analyze and issue periodic production and performance reports. Supply input for development of the annual budget.. Fully meet both the spirit and the intent of all applicable laws and legal requirements at all of regional facilities. Identify and manage operating permits. Ensure that facility is compliant with mandatory regulatory requirements. Coordinate and assist in external and internal audits. Manage subsequent action items until they are closed. If required, ensure that pipeline crossing and Right of Ways are appropriately managed. Operate in a spirit of Continuous Improvement focused at being and remaining the most cost effective producer in all markets we serve. Ensure that the plant(s) is(are) operated in a reliable and efficient manner. Participate in periodic Operations Review with Regional Operations Manager.

Establishes production and quality control standards or confers with OCC and management personnel to establish them. Determines production priorities while considering operation efficiency and cost factors. Establishes and follows up on performance indicators and makes sure that productivity goals are met. Maintains operation costs aligned with financial objectives.

Analyzes production and quality problems: Prepares and/or reviews production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of non-conformity with product specifications and operating or production problems, and determines actions that are to be taken to improve operations. Makes sure that products respect specifications and that necessary quantities are available for customers. Assigns and Follows up on action items through INTELEX. Conducts RCAs as needed.

Ensures safety and environmental compliance: Execute the site specific HSEQ Action Plan. Ensures maintenance of installations and equipment. Ensures that all standard operating procedures and safety and environmental plans are followed and respected. Handles accident investigations and all resulting activities. Regularly evaluates safety and environmental plans and implements necessary changes.

Administers and ensures coaching and development of production team: Participate in contractual negotiations with unions and/or with employee committees. Ensure that employees are recognized for their contribution (e.g., nomination in Innergy, ‘celebrating success’, etc). Ensure communication between management, employees and their representatives. Provide safe and environmentally compliant operations for our employees, our customers, our shareholders and the public. Insure that Industrial activities are carried out by trained resources, and that all Critical Tasks are performed only by qualified personnel. Ensure that all the plants in the Region are properly staffed and recruit for new personnel as required. Document each employee’s training needs and ensure that training is delivered and documents. Participate in succession planning with Regional Operations Manager.

Ensures adequate staff is available. Ensures the training and coaching of team members in order to meet local and corporate objectives. Establishes development programs for team members and supports them in their efforts to meet quantity and quality objectives. Assists in the development of their career. Proceeds with performance evaluation and provides feedback on results attained.

Maintains efficient working relations: Ensures communication between management, employees and their representatives. Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs and concerns of team members. Encourages the sharing of experiences and makes knowledge and know-how accessible. Is involved in contractual negotiations with unions and/or with employee committees.

Process improvement: Suggests means of improving processes and performance indicators. Finds means of improving efficiency and reliability. Takes part in projects or technical development studies. Recommends quality and safety rules, as well as changes to procedures and local action plans.

Manages the budget: Prepares and manages expenses budget (production and maintenance) in accordance with departmental and corporate guidelines. Makes proposals to optimize operations. Bases choices on operation expenses. Ensures investments profitability. Performs cost analysis and takes necessary measurements. Prepares corresponding administrative reports.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $145,000.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma : Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Training : Air separation plant, hydrogen, cogeneration technology as necessary
  • Knowledge : good knowledge of labour, environment, occupational health and safety laws and regulations, business sense , good level of English with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • More than 10 years of experience in a continuous operation environment, preferably in the chemical industry
